Get the Facts

Cancer is a complex group of diseases with many possible causes.   Some of the known causes of cancer include:
  1. Genetic factors
  2. Lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, diet, and physical activity
  3. Certain types of infections
  4. Environmental exposures to different types of chemicals and radiation
The Pajama Run® is focused on raising funds for research on cancers below the waist such as colorectal, prostate, bladder, cervical, uterine, ovarian and pancreatic cancers.

Thanks to improvements in prevention, early detection, and treatment, more than 1,000,000 people in the U.S. count themselves as survivors of colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is often highly treatable and if found and treated early, has a 5-year survival rate of about 90%!

Because these screenings often carry social stigmas many of us are not getting tested. Understanding that these social stigmas can carry a death sentence for many, it is the goal of the Pajama Run to increase awareness.

To find out if you are at an increased risk for colorectal cancer and what you can do to try to prevent it, please vist the American Cancer Society's Colorectal Cancer Early Detection web site.

For more detailed statistical information on cancers below the waist please read the Colorectal Cancer Facts and Figures by the American Cancer Society.
